Coaching Circles

Reading offers information. Coaching fosters transformation. Let’s do both together.

Join us for a eight-week virtual coaching intensive led by Jeana Marinelli based on the book The Person You Mean to Be by Dolly Chugh. Together we will notice biases, own blindspots and practice interrupting biases at the personal, social and structural level. Commit to your growth and transformation in a small cohort of leaders dedicated to building more equitable communities and workplaces. Leave challenged and changed with reflection practices to apply to your life and work.

Cohort dates: TBD.

Examine our biases.

Together, we will dive deep into the science of implicit bias to examine our own personal biases and the many sources that inform our thinking at an unconscious level. We will notice what Dr. Beverly Daniel Tatum describes as “smog”- the messages that we breathe in and breathe out every day about what and who matters when it comes to race, gender, class, sexuality, education, religion, and other important parts of our identities. We will make the smog in our lives visible, at the personal, social and systemic levels.

Let go of the idea of a “good person” in service of becoming better.

Our desire to be seen as a “good person” is often what prevents us from becoming better. When faced with an opportunity to learn about our biases, we have a choice. We can let our fixed mindsets take over and leave no room for making mistakes. This often leads to defensiveness, fragility and direct harm for those we are trying to support. Alternatively, we can accept that we are a work in progress and embrace the idea of being good-ish. We will practice our growth mindset skills through listening, noticing and challenging ourselves and each other to take ownership of our blindspots.

Grow together alongside leaders who are committed to transformation.

Information can only get us so far. Transformation happens when a community of leaders comes together to examine our heads and hearts. When it comes to bias and inclusion, we cannot be part of the solution until we see how we are part of the problem. In this community, we will take ownership of our growth and development. We will embrace our own discomfort as part of stumbling upward. We will practice being curious with ourselves and each other. We will push ourselves to listen with the intention to learn. Our individual and community reflection will provide the catalyst for our growth. Accountability will be high. There will not be an option to passively listen or observe.
